Red Sox Attempt To Repeat Will Be A Challenge

After winning the 2018 World Series, the Boston Red Sox will be tasked with defending their title in 2019. But going from hunter to hunted in sports is always difficult, and even more so in Major League Baseball. Boston will have some serious challenges to overcome if they want to get themselves back on top of the heap in baseball again in the upcoming season, with these three issues, in particular, poised to make their lives difficult. read more

Betts is the Bet for MVP in 2018

We all knew Mookie Betts was good.  But did we know he was this good?

Through 48 games (not quite a third of the season), Betts is batting .359, with 17 HR, 37 RBI, and an earth shattering OPS of 1.187.

Extrapolate those numbers over a full season, and Mookie is on pace to put up a tremendous season–if he continues even close to this pace, he could be looking at a 50 HR, 120 RBI type season.  Oh, and we don’t even care if he participates in the home run derby. read more

Losing Ohtani To Tommy John Is A Bummer for Baseball

With news today that Shohei Ohtani would be opting for Tommy John surgery, we’re feeling just a bit of sadness for the poor guy, who has brought some added excitement to Major League Baseball this year.  Here he is throwing absolute gas (101mph reached) against the Astros. read more

Dusty’s Coming Back!

Mookie says “NO” to the Home Run Derby

Bummer.  Mookie Betts won’t participate in the Home Run Derby.  It would have been fun to see him out there but it sounds like he doesn’t want any part of it.

Plus, word now that JD Martinez has also said he doesn’t want in on the derby. read more

Red Sox are Fantasy Gold Jerry…Gold

If you grew up watching Seinfeld, you might remember this one

gold-jerry-gold

And well, that’s what some key members of the Sox have been this year in Fantasy baseball lineups–GOLD.

As this article from Sports Illustrated notes:

Betts and Martinez are hitting a ridiculous .354/.417/.719 with 30 home runs. Both would have to be included on the short list of AL MVP candidates through the first two months of the season, along with Mike Trout, Aaron Judge and, of course, Ramirez and Lindor. It’s hard enough for pitchers to deal with one player like Betts or Martinez. When they have to see two, it’s nearly impossible to navigate the top half of a lineup. read more

Catcher-Heavy Red Sox Not Looking To Trade

The Red Sox are blessed with a number of options in almost every position but none more so than that of catcher. Following a year of such promise that ultimately ended in real disappointment, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski and the red of Boston’s decision makers are putting together their plans for the new campaign. There might be some areas of this roster that need addressing, but it looks as though the Sox should be able to put a tick next to the catcher position. read more

We knew he could hit but boy can the kid cover some ground in left field.  Wonderboy Andrew Benintendi continues to awe Red Sox fans, who are oh so thankful that their fearless GM didn’t deal the rookie for any deadline trade baggage.  If you haven’t seen the catch yet, prepare to be amazed.  It’s one of the best I’ve ever seen. read more

Opportunity Knocks for Struggling Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox reach the quarter pole of the 2015 MLB season this week in disappointing fashion. After opening the campaign as favorites to claim the American League pennant, and strong 10/1 odds to win their second World Series title in three years, the Red Sox have tumbled to a distant 25/1 in MLB betting at the online sportsbooks. read more

Red Sox Looking For Answers One Month In

The Boston Red Sox have been in a bit of a funk ever since they hoisted the World Series trophy in 2013. A disastrous 2014 campaign was forgivable, but fans are already getting restless after a slow start. There are still five months of regular season action left, so they have time to figure it out. However, it looks like there are still some glaring weaknesses on the team at the moment. read more
