Beckett Pitches Well, Bullpen Doesn’t

The Red Sox lost…again. After starting off last season 2-10, though, this season seems like a breeze. The Red Sox already have 4 wins, but they collected their 8th loss tonight against the Texas Rangers. It really should come as no surprise though considering the Rangers’ prolific offense and the Red Sox general lack of pitching. On the bright side, a 6-3 loss feels so much better than the 18-3 loss they suffered yesterday at the hands of these same Rangers. read more

Buchholz Done, Lackey’s Chance To Stop Being An Idiot

Twitter has let me down of late (doesn’t help trying to break trades after a couple cocktails either), but word on that beast is that last year’s American League ERA leader, Clay Buchholz, has a stress fracture in his back and is likely to miss the remainder of the season.  I do not believe this injury will stop the Sox from winning the A.L. East but it certainly hurts their chances in any 5 or 7 game series (especially against the Phils).  Outside of Lester and Beckett the starting pitching has been so-so this season, and what was considered the strength of this Red Sox team at the start of spring training is now their biggest question mark heading into the dog days of summer.  Buchholz was not posting the numbers of last season, but I would feel very comfortable with him on the bump against anyone’s number three starter and now the Sox do not posses that luxury. read more

Can JoBu help MLB hit Wakefield’s Knuckleball?

So as it stands we have a struggling John Lackey, a hurt Dice K (blessing or curse?) and Clay Buchholz on the 15 day DL, but we also have a soon to be 45 year old knuckleballer who is the Red Sox secret weapon.

If you told people before the season that the Red Sox would have lost Dice K for the season and Wakefield was going to be a key contributor they probably would have said the Sox would be struggling. Well that isn’t the case at all. In fact over his last 6 starts Wake is 4-1 with a 3.60 ERA. He is now only 3 wins away from 200 and shows no signs of slowing down. read more
