Red Sox Resurgence in 2025: Red Sox Win on Opening Day!
With a reloaded pitching staff and some big off-season acquisitions, the 2025 Boston Red Sox started the season with winning ways on Opening Day.
Ace and Number 1 Starter Garrett Crochet pitched some solid innings, and the revamped bullpen picked up the win in the late part of the game, whereas another recent addition, Aroldis Chapman, picked up the win.
Although currently struggling since then, this game shows the Red Sox can play together to secure wins in a season where, for a change, many preseason prognosticators are saying they should win this year’s AL East pennant and have a resurgent team that could go far in the playoffs and hopefully back into the World Series.
The batting lineup is formidable, and Alex Bregman is at 3B while newcomer Kristian Campbell locks down the 2B position. Manager Alex Cora said Heavy Hitter Rafael Devers will be the regular DH and a backup infielder.
Triston Casas has earned the 1B position, and Cedanne Rafaela will be the everyday shortstop after his spectacular rookie season. This makes a rounded-out infield that can hit. The number 1 catcher is Connor Wong, with a much-improved pitching staff for him to handle while the same basic outfield from last season of Jarren Duran, Rob Refsnyder, and Wilyer Abreu.
The team has lost some home run power with O’Neill going elsewhere but has improved considerably in both speeds on the base paths and their ability to produce runs. Manager Alex Cora said this group is getting along well, and the clubhouse has good vibes.
However, the success of this year’s Boston Red Sox will depend on their ability to stay in games with good pitching. Something there’s sorely missing last year was solid starting pitching. Those issues are addressed with Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler, fresh from a Championship win with the Los Angeles Dodgers, while Richard Fitts and Cooper Criswell round out the starters.
The bullpen returns Garrett Whitlock and adds Aroldis Chapman as a closer. Kenley Jansen went to another team after doing a great job for the Red Sox the past two seasons, and hopefully, the relief pitching will bounce back with role players stepping up to make the pitching bearable to watch.
After finishing exactly .500 at 81-81 last season, the 2025 Red Sox are being projected to finish with wins in the 90s this 2025, and that will put them in great positions to do well in the playoffs and postseason.
For now, the Red Sox home opener at Fenway Park is this Friday, April 4, 2025.
They will be facing the St. Louis Cardinals, a team they have beaten twice for Championships both in 2004 and 2013.
Let’s hope this sets a good tone for the season, where they will again return to the World Series to defeat any NL opponent.
Red Sox Nation is pumped up and excited for what 2025 will bring, and so we say our familiar sayings, “Go Sox Go” and in 2025 “Let’s Go Red Sox!”
