Surprising Sox Off To Solid Start, And Here’s To The Wakefields

April 14, 2024

Preseason reports were quite brutal, with most saying that the 2024 Red Sox would not be contenders this season.

These pundits were way off base, as these Surprising Sox have a solid record of 7-5 to start the season. This puts them in 3rd place in the always competitive AL East.

This year’s campaign saw the Sox open on the road against the Seattle Mariners and The Anaheim Angels. So far, the Sox have had a lot of pop in their bats and have been hitting homers from regulars like Raffy, Tyler O’Neill, Yoshida, and Connor Wong.

If they can keep up their solid hitting, they should be in many close games, supported by a new and improved competent staff led by Ace Brayan Bello and company.

On a much more positive note than last year’s difficult season, Manager Alex Cora has directly said that this year’s clubhouse had good vibes, and if there was an award for that area of baseball, these 2024 Red Sox would win it. So it looks like first-year General Manager Craig Breslow is already having a good effect on this year’s team.

The only downside is that all-around good guy and solid second baseman Trevor Story is going to be out most of the year due to an injury. This means a hole to be filled at the two-bag between Raffy at third, power hitter Triston Casas at first, and rookie sensation Cedanne Rafeala at Shortstop.

Let’s hope they can stay as one of the best infields in MLB.

The Red Sox home opener was one of the most emotional in a long while as the 2004 Championship Team was reunited and took to the field.

In memory of a hero from that team, Tim Wakefield, his son Trevor, and daughter Brianne stood near the mound as a tribute to their parents, Tim and Stacy Wakefield, who did so much for the Red Sox Nation and community. Brianna threw out the first pitch to start the season to Red Sox Legend Jason Varitek.

The first Boston homestand weekend sees the visiting Anaheim Angels come into town to take on the Sox before the Cleveland Guardians have a four-game set that will take place during the annual Patriot’s Day Game in Boston with the backdrop of the world-famous Boston Marathon being run!

So, with a good record and the season already underway, Boston Red Sox fans are holding on to their hats and sitting tight in their seats, anticipating another exciting and successful season in their beloved team’s long history. Let’s always root for the Red Sox as we say Go Sox, Go!
