Red Sox fans are enjoying a great start to the 2023 baseball season at Jet Blue Park in Fort Meyers, Florida this year.
As of March 8th, the Red Sox remain undefeated with a record of 8-0 and are playing spectacular baseball once again.
After last year’s disappointing season the Sox are rebuilding while looking to be competitive in the AL East. The hopes are that the Sox will be able to advance to the playoffs this year.
The improvement for this year’s squad had to start with pitching and the results? So far, so good.
After struggling the past few years with injuries, a much healthier Chris Sale took to the mound for Red Sox nation. He pitched well and was quoted as saying he “felt awesome”.
However, we all know that the staff will have to have some of the other pitchers step up to provide quality innings as well.
So this means….
Corey Klubber, James Paxton, Garrett Whitlock, Tanner Houck, and Bryan Mata will have the task of keeping the Sox within scoring distance of winning games.
This was a big problem last year as the hitting was okay, but pitching was atrocious both starting and relief.
However, in probably their best pickup of the off-season they addressed their closer issue by acquiring proven closer Kenley Jansen.
Ryan Brasier, Chris Martin, and Joely Rodriguez will play important relief and setup roles as well.
As far as the offense and batting goes the Red Sox have also improved. Key additions Justin Turner (from Dodgers), Adam Duvall(From Braves), and Wilyer Abreu (from minor leagues) should help with hitting. While youngsters Connor Wong and Triston Casas hopefully develop into better ballplayers.
Steady producers Bobby Dalbec, Kike Hernandez, and Alex Verdugo will have to continue their solid play to keep the Red Sox scoring. While Trevor Story looks to rehab from surgery and return to the powerful Red Sox lineup ASAP!
They won’t have the solid play of J.D. Martinez around for the first time in years but look to somewhat fill that void with Free agent Yoshida Masataka, a superstar player from Japan.
In the best description possible, Red Sox manager Alex Cora has been dealt a good hand of cards this season to work with.
Red Sox fans are itching for immediate results and this great undefeated start has many members of a Red Sox Nation excited for another spectacular season punctuated by a exciting pennant run.
Go Red Sox go!
